Traditional facial cosmetic surgery focuses heavily on the outer aspects of the face - the skin and the underlying musculature.  Deeper to these layers lies the facial skeleton, and it is this layer, in particular, that plays a vital role in esthetics.  With modern surgical techniques, it is possible to esthetically enhance this facial layer.  By altering the architectural framework of the facial skeleton, it is possible to create beauty, rather than simply restoring beauty.  This is the concept of facial contouring.

Chin Contouring (Genioplasty)

Genioplasty

Genioplasty is a procedure of repositioning the chin.  This is performed by making an inferior osteotomy, allowing separation of the lower chin and reorienting it in a more harmonious configuration.  The chin can be moved along any vector (up, down, forward, back), or reshaped, giving a more balanced and esthetic appearance.  

Reduction Genioplasty

The chin is retruded by either repositioning the bony chin posteriorly or by contouring the underlying bone, in order to bring more balance to the face.

Advancement Genioplasty

The chin is protracted by either repositioning the bony chin forward or by insertion of a silicon implant, giving a more harmonious appearance to the face.
